Illinois is adding veteran experience to its wide receiver corps heading into the 2022 season.
On Friday, former Akron and Northern Colorado wide receiver Jonah Morris announced on Twitter his decision to commit to Illinois. He will have one year of eligibility to use in Champaign.
“I will be committing to the University of Illinois!” Morris wrote. “We felt this was the best move from coaching to get me ready for the next level as well as it being a lot closer to home so my family can attend for my final year of college ball!”

While at Akron, Morris had 26 receptions for 381 yards and a touchdown during the 2018 campaign. Last year at Northern Colorado, he hauled in 20 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown.
Illinois is in need of depth at the receiver position, so the addition of Morris fills that need. He could challenge for immediate playing time with the Fighting Illini, hoping to improve their passing attack entering the 2022 season.
Last season, Illinois finished with a 5-7 record in the first year under Bret Bielema. The Illini had upset road victories over Penn State and Minnesota and closed the season with a win over rival Northwestern.
