Illinois guard Ayo Dosunmu scored 30 points — including 20 in the second half — in the Illini’s 69-60 win over Indiana on Saturday.

That performance drew some high praise from Illinois co-star Kofi Cockburn.

After the game, Dosunmu was asked a question about his performance, but deferred credit. However, Cockburn stepped in and said he was “just trying to be a nice guy.”

“He knows he can take over whenever he feels like it,” Cockburn said, unprompted. “Nobody can guard him, it’s that simple. Nobody can guard him, he knows that whenever he feels like it, he can take over.”

Here’s a clip of Cockburn’s comments:

It sure felt that way on Saturday against the Hoosiers. Of his 20 second-half points, 16 of them came in the final 10 minutes. He was brilliant down the stretch in closing out Indiana for Illinois seventh win of the season.

Dosunmu is now averaging 24.1 points per game, which is good enough for No. 3 in the nation heading into next week’s slate.

Illinois will be in action again on Jan. 2, 2021 against Purdue.
