It’s been a rough few years for the Illinois Fighting Illini, and that’s taken a toll on coach Lovie Smith’s recruiting efforts, too.
However, the Illini have recruited Bishop Dunne High School in Dallas particularly well the past couple of years. For the 2018 class, they signed 4-star DT Calvin Avery, and on Saturday, they added a 4-star WR from the school to their 2019 class.
As you can see in the tweet below, Marquez Beason announced that he was committing to Illinois:

According to the 247Sports composite, Beason — who plays both receiver and cornerback — is the No. 6 athlete in the class of 2019 and the No. 9 overall prospect from the state of Texas.
He’s the first player in Illinois’s 2019 class, but if Smith can keep up this momentum, it could be a great year for the Illini on the recruiting trails.
