Illinois QB Art Sitkowski undergoes season-ending arm surgery

Illinois quarterback Art Sitkowski’s recovery starts now.
Sitkowski underwent successful surgery on his broken arm on Wednesday, Illini coach Bret Bielema announced on his radio show. The Rutgers transfer suffered the injury during the 4th overtime of Illinois’ upset of Penn State last week.

He also has to have surgery on his shoulder to relieve an injury he played through all year, meaning he’s looking at a 6-8 month recovery period.
After Brandon Peters went down with a shoulder injury in Week 0 against Nebraska, Sitkowski came in and proved to be a capable replacement. In 5 games this season, he completed 74 of 108 passes for 704 yards and 6 touchdowns for the Illini.
Now, it looks like Peters will be back at QB1 after Sitkowski’s injury. He’s also dealt with his share of injuries, though, which is something to keep an eye on going forward.
Illinois takes on Rutgers — Sitkowski’s former team — this weekend in Champaign.
