Illinois TE Tip Reiman is moving on to the NFL.
Reiman took to social media on Tuesday to address his plans for the 2024 season. A former walk-on who became a team captain, Illinois considered Reiman a junior in 2023. Instead of using his COVID-19 waiver to return as a 5th-year senior, Reiman has elected to declare for the NFL Draft.
“I have been so blessed to have the opportunity to play ball at the University of Illinois, representing the God I serve, my loved ones, my state, walk-ons everywhere, and Illini Nation itself,” Reiman wrote in a note posted on Instagram. “It has been an incredible honor to put on the orange and blue over these last four seasons.
“Thank you to all of my teammates, coaches, and staff, and everyone in between that have shaped me along the way, pushed me to be the best version of myself, and have loved me unconditionally.
“I cannot express the extreme gratitude I have for everyone who has played a role in this chapter of my life. With this being said I am declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft. God bless!”
The 2023 season was the most productive of Reiman’s career. In 12 games, he recorded 19 catches for career-highs of 203 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns.
We’ll see how Bret Bielema chooses to address the significant departure for the Illini.
