Illinois WR, team’s second-leading receiver in 2022, hits transfer portal

A member of Illinois’ wide receiver room is heading for the transfer portal as of Wednesday.
According to multiple reports, wide receiver Brian Hightower is entering the transfer portal as a graduate transfer. Originally a member of the 2018 recruiting class for Miami (FL), Hightower transferred to Illinois and spent 3 seasons with the Illini.
During the 2022 season, Hightower finished second on the team with 37 catches. His 453 receiving yards finished just behind Pat Bryant for third on the team while adding 2 touchdown catches.

Illinois is already dealing with a number of key departures on both sides of the ball with RB Chase Brown and QB Tommy DeVito heading to the NFL. Hopefully, the Illini can rebound and regroup after a strong 8-win campaign in the 2022 season.
