Wisconsin’s 2022 recruiting class just got a lot better.
Tuesday, the Badgers received a verbal commitment from in-state offensive tackle Joe Brunner. The Milwaukee native decided to stay close to home and suit up for Wisconsin, making his announcement with a post on Twitter.
Brunner is a 4-star lineman in the 2022 class and ranks as the No. 55 overall prospect of the cycle. He’s also listed as the No. 7 offensive tackle, according to 247Sports Composite.
“I’m staying home,” Brunner wrote on Twitter. “110% committed to the University of Wisconsin #BADA22BADGERS.”

Brunner had several big-time offers on the recruiting front with nearly 20 programs showing interest. He chose to stick with the hometown Badgers over offers from Notre Dame, Ohio State, Florida State, Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Northwestern, Oregon, Penn State, Purdue and Tennessee.
Brunner will be a participant in the All-American Bowl and has drawn comparisons to former Michigan State lineman and current NFL star Jack Conklin, per Allen Trieu of 247Sports.
Last season, Brunner played the right tackle spot along the offensive line and also was inserted along the defensive line. He earned All-State honors from the Associated Press and was named the North Shore Conference Offensive Lineman of the Year.
At 6-oot-6, 300 pounds, Brunner is considered the top prospect out of Wisconsin. He’s also currently the top-ranked player to commit to the Badgers in the 2022 class.
