Tate Martell was granted immediate eligibility after transferring from Ohio State to Miami this offseason, but Matthew Baldwin didn’t receive the same response from the NCAA.

According to a report from Drew Davison of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, former Buckeye quarterback Matthew Baldwin will spend his first year at TCU on the sideline. He submitted an immediate eligibility waiver to the NCAA, which was later denied.

Baldwin and TCU are expected to file an appeal and challenge the NCAA’s ruling.

Baldwin opted to transfer from Ohio State following spring practice. He was in a quarterback battle with incoming Georgia quarterback Justin Fields, who was also granted immediate eligibility by the NCAA.

Due to NCAA transfer rules, players who transfer are required to sit one full season before participating, unless they are granted a waiver or are a graduate transfer.

Baldwin didn’t appear in any games for the Buckeyes during his career at Ohio State.
