Indiana continues improbable run with best ranking since 1967

Indiana is up a spot in Sunday’s AP Poll, the program not just staying in the top 10 in the national polls but also moving up a spot after a dominating road win in East Lansing.
Saturday’s impressive (and thorough) 24-0 win at Michigan State was good enough to see Indiana sneak up a spot to No. 9 in the AP Poll. Last week, Indiana rose to top 10 in the very same poll, something that the Hoosiers hadn’t accomplished since 1969. The highest-ranking ever for Indiana? No. 4 in 1967.
So far this year, Indiana has beaten a ranked Penn State (0-4) and two weeks ago a ranked Michigan (1-3) to help solidify themselves as a top 10 team.

The Hoosiers will have a chance to show that they are for real this weekend at No. 3 Ohio State. A further statement game two weeks later against No. 13 Wisconsin could also serve as further validation of Indiana’s rebuild under head coach Tom Allen.
Given that neither Penn State nor Michigan are currently ranked, a win against Ohio State or Wisconsin would certainly go a long way in legitimizing what is going on in Bloomington.
In his fifth year at Indiana, Allen is now 22-20. But in recent years, he has painstakingly taken the Hoosiers to respectability. Last year’s 8-5 season and one-point loss in the Gator Bowl to Tennessee set-up Indiana for this year’s strong start to the season.
Now, all of a sudden, Indiana has their eyes on crashing the College Football Playoff.
