Indiana head coach Tom Allen continues to meet with suspended RB regularly

Considering the amount of success Indiana has had running the football in each of its first two games of the season, you wouldn’t suspect it was without its top ball-carrier.

After two weeks, the Hoosiers have rushed for 450 yards, racking up 213 in the season opener against FIU, and churning out another 237 against Virginia last Saturday. All of that production has come without last year’s leading rusher Morgan Ellison.

Ellison was suspended from the team prior to the start of the 2018 season without much reasoning. Allen has said the running back’s timetable is “out of his control” and hasn’t given much clarification on his situation.

But Allen did say that he’s continued to meet with Ellison throughout his suspension, saying that things have gone well during those interactions.

“I meet with him each week, and that’s been going really good and he’s just still suspended from the team activities,” Allen said during his weekly news conference Monday. “I don’t have any further update on that part of it. I just stay with him and meet with him and help him through the process.

Ellison rushed for 704 yards and six touchdowns a year ago for the Hoosiers, leading the team in both categories. He was expected to be a major factor in the offense again this fall, but the suspension has kept him away from the team.

His teammates have picked up the slack, particularly freshman Stevie Scott, who rushed for 204 yards and a touchdown in last week’s win over Virginia. He’s totaled 274 yards on the season, leading Indiana.

IU will round out its non-conference schedule on Saturday against Ball State. There’s still no timetable on Ellison’s return.
