Much like Memorial Stadium just across the street this fall, Assembly Hall will sit vacant while the Hoosiers are in action on the hardwood this winter. At least for now.

On Tuesday, Indiana announced that no fans will be permitted to attend games at Assembly Hall indefinitely. It’s a decision that could be revisited at a later date, but for now, the games will not feature any fans.

The B1G made the call on fan attendance for the college football season, only permitting a small number of friends and family members. It appears the conference is allowing schools to make their call on basketball games.

Assembly Hall is regarded as one of the premier venues in college basketball. Seeing it empty for Hoosier home games will be an eerie experience. But because of the pandemic, IU doesn’t want to take any further risks with spreading the virus.

We’ll see if anything changes at any time during the college basketball season in Bloomington.
