It is official: Mike Woodson is returning to Bloomington as the next head coach of the Hoosiers!
Reports began to swirl on Sunday that Indiana and Woodson were getting close to a deal. Woodson is currently an assistant with the New York Knicks and has served two stints as an NBA head coach.
Indiana officially announced the hiring just before 5 pm EST:

Woodson played for the Hoosiers in the late 70s, averaging 19.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game for his career before spending a decade in the NBA. He began his coaching career in 1996 as an assistant for the Milwaukee Bucks but has never coached in the collegiate ranks.
Along with Woodson’s hiring, it is also being reported that Indiana is hiring Thad Matta in a role to assist with Woodson’s staff. Matta’s position is not expected to be a countable role, meaning the Hoosiers will still have three assistant coach slots to fill.
It will be interesting to see how Woodson rounds out his staff as the Hoosiers look to get back to the IU standard of play moving forward.
