Indiana QB suffers ACL injury, will miss remainder of the season

The 2018 season has been cut short for Indiana freshman quarterback Michael Penix Jr.
During his weekly press conference on Monday, Hoosiers coach Tom Allen updated the injury status of Penix, and the news wasn’t good. Penix suffered an ACL injury and will have to undergo surgery in the coming weeks.
Penix suffered the injury in Indiana’s game against Penn State on Saturday. The Hoosiers were defeated 33-28.
“My heart breaks for him,” Allen said Monday. “He’ll be a better player, a more mentally tough individual, and he’ll have more confidence about his ability to overcome things.”

Allen said that the goal is to have Penix ready to throw for 7-on-7 spring football.
Penix has played in three games for the Hoosiers this season, meaning he’s still eligible to retain his redshirt status. The freshman has played behind starting quarterback Peyton Ramsey.
In those three appearances, Penix has throw for 219 yards and a touchdowns while completing nearly 62 percent of his passes. He’s also rushed for 45 yards on seven carries.
The dual-threat quarterback chose Indiana over Florida State, a surprise decision, and was a former Tennessee commit. He was a member of the Hoosiers’ 2018 recruiting class.
