Indiana defeated FCS Western Illinois 77-3 on Friday night in Bloomington.

IU’s 77 points in this game represents a new program record for points scored in a single contest:

That breaks a record that stood for well over a century. Indiana scored 76 points in a game against Franklin College way back on Oct. 19, 1901.

Indiana’s 701 yards of total offense in this game also represents a new program record.

Quarterback Kurtis Rourke was nearly perfect in this game. He completed 15-of-17 passes for 268 yards and 2 touchdowns. Backup QB Tayven Jackson also put up a big stat line in limited snaps: 104 yards and 1 touchdown on just 3 pass attempts.

Justice Ellison led the way on the ground in this game, averaging 13 yards per carry. He scored twice and finished with 117 yards. Five other Hoosiers found the end zone on the ground and 4 others averaged at least 6 yards per attempt in this game.

Defensively, Indiana limited Western Illinois to just 2.3 yards per play. The Hoosiers also recorded 3 takeaways in this game — 2 interceptions and 1 fumble.

With the exception of a 1-play drive to end the first half, Indiana scored touchdowns on each of its first 9 drives to start the night.

Indiana is off to a great start in the Curt Cignetti era. The Hoosiers are 2-0 heading into next week’s Big Ten clash against UCLA.
