Indiana star WR Whop Philyor announces plans for 2021 season

After four years of success at Indiana, Whop Philyor has elected to move on to the next level.

The Tampa, Florida, native announced via Twitter on Saturday that he will forego an additional year of eligibility as he attempts to live out a dream of playing in the NFL.

Though Philyor has played four years, the 2020 season did not count against any player’s eligibility, a decision made by the NCAA in light of the pandemic.

Philyor came out of Plant High School and was immediately an impact player for the Hoosiers. In 2017, the then-freshman caught 33 passes, which was third best on the team. That included a game against Maryland where he caught 13 passes for 127 yards and a touchdown.

His sophomore season was limited to just seven games due to injury, though he managed to catch 13 passes for 148 yards and a touchdown against Michigan State.

As a junior, Philyor became the seventh Hoosier ever to reach 1,000 yards receiving and was named IU’s Most Outstanding Offensive Player of the Year.

In his senior season, Philyor was a key piece in Indiana’s historic season. He caught touchdown passes in games against Penn State, Ohio State and Wisconsin.
