Injured Nebraska linebacker Will Honas plans to appeal to the NCAA for an additional year of eligibility. Head coach Scott Frost confirmed that news during a radio appearance on Sports Nightly on Thursday.

Brian Christopherson of 247Sports relayed the message via Twitter during the radio program. Honas has not played this season after suffering an injury in the spring.

Honas was considered one of Nebraska’s top linebackers returning for the 2021 season.

In 2020, Honas was the team leader in tackles for loss with 6.5 stops in the backfield. He also ranked No. 2 in total tackles, piling up 57 in the 7 games he played in last fall.

During his career with the Huskers, Honas has played in 23 career games and has been credited with 145 tackles. He’s also responsible for 12 tackles for loss and 4 sacks.

A return in 2022 would mark Honas’ fifth season in Lincoln. He transferred to Nebraska after spending two years at Butler Community College.
