Insult to injury: Michigan football team joins in on Wisconsin’s ‘Jump Around’ tradition

The end of the third quarter of a Wisconsin football game in Madison has a distinct sound.

The Badgers fans are treated to a traditional playing of “Jump Around” with the fans following suit jumping up and down in the stands. Last week, the tradition traveled a little south and took place during the Wisconsin game with Notre Dame at Soldier Field in Chicago. With the game still tight, fans of both Wisconsin and Notre Dame joined in – then the Irish exploded for 31 fourth quarter points

This week however, the game was in Madison. And while the tradition continued, the Badgers were trailing B1G rival Michigan, 21-10. The Wolverines had taken the momentum at the time, and as such the Michigan players joined in the fun.

Of course, what followed wasn’t what Badgers fans had in mind.

It marked the second time in a row an opponent had erupted to take control of the game in the final period – Wisconsin lost 38-17 after UM put up 18 points before a throw-in Badgers touchdown with less than a minute left.

Maybe it’s time to re-evaluate this idea?
