Iowa alters bye week media availability plan for assistant coaches, per report

Iowa heads into a Week 9 bye with an overall record of 6-2. However, the Hawkeyes hit that bye week on the heels of a wild and disastrous loss to Minnesota after clawing their way to the top of the B1G West.

Heading into the bye, reporter John Steppe with The Gazette is reporting that Iowa will have a change of plans to the traditional bye week availability of the assistant coaches. The Hawkeyes will not make offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz or any of the coordinators available to the media over the bye week.

According to Steppe, that is a departure from what has been standard practice for the program in previous seasons.

While all the coordinators are impacted by this decision, it certainly looks — on the surface — as a move directly connected to the offense and what has been another disastrous season for the unit across the board under OC Brian Ferentz. It’s true there are multiple key injuries on that side of the ball, but that cannot entirely mask the issues.

In the loss to Minnesota, the Hawkeyes managed just 10 points and were particularly inept in the second half of play.
