Iowa announces honorary captain for B1G opener vs. Rutgers

Iowa has announced who will serve as the honorary captain for Saturday’s B1G opener against Rutgers.
On Thursday, the program announced that former defensive back Tom Hayes will be the honorary captain this week for the Hawkeyes on Saturday. Following his playing career with the Hawkeyes, he went on to coach for 40 seasons.
Hayes spent 29 years of his coaching career at the college level and most recently served as the Kansas State defensive coordinator from 2011-17, his final six seasons on the coaching scene.

Coe College was the spot where Hayes got his career started at the coaching level in 1976. At the Division I level, Hayes coached at UCLA, Texas A&M, Kansas, Stanford, Tulane. He also had a seven-year run in the NFL.
Hayes will accompany the team captains to midfield for the pregame coin toss for Saturday’s game against the Scarlet Knights. The Hawkeyes are 1-0 after a 38-14 win over Miami (OH).
