The honorary team captain for Iowa’s Week 5 game against Middle Tennessee on Saturday has been announced.

On Thursday, Iowa announced that former defensive back Miguel Merrick will accompany the team captains at midfield for Saturday’s coin toss. Merrick was a defensive back for the Hawkeyes from 2003-06.

According to the release from Iowa, Merrick collected 202 career tackles and three interceptions. He was an All-B1G honorable mention following the 2006 season.

Following his career at Iowa, Merrick signed a free agent contract with the San Diego Chargers.

Iowa enters Saturday’s game with a perfect 3-0 record. The Hawkeyes have defeated Miami (OH), Rutgers and Iowa State to get to the mark. This weekend’s game will mark the final non-conference matchup of the season for the Hawkeyes.
