Not being able to capitalize on the opponent’s two false starts and shanked 17 yard punt had Iowa fans up in arms on Saturday.
The Hawkeye’s offense looked less than stellar, and at some points, even ineffective, adding to fans’ ire. Angry Iowa fans took to Twitter to express their frustration.
We welcome back Brian Ferentz. https://t.co/QR5Sqv24fi

Has Brian Ferentz ever had a creative playcall on first down
— Lucy Rohden (@lucy_rohden) September 3, 2022
What do you suppose Brian Ferentz DOES when the other team executes passes 20+ yards down the field? Just shrugs, says "We have no idea where they got that technology," and goes back to diagramming two-yard run plays?

I think 3 points against South Dakota State in the first quarter is a fireable offense for Brian Ferentz

Fire Brian Ferentz and bench Petras already. #Hawkeyes

My goal this season is to be supportive of Petras and Brian Ferentz no matter what happens.
What am I doing to myself

Brian Ferentz: we have made the offense simpler…for the defense
— Black Heart Gold Pain (@BHGP) September 3, 2022
as a non Iowa fan, I’m almost moved by Brian Ferentz’s commitment to “the brand”
Sorry Iowa fans

During the preseason, Ferentz announced that he would be “simplifying the offense” drawing criticism from media and fans alike. Perhaps the offense was simplified too much, considering Iowa’s inability to get rolling against a less talented SDSU.
Heading to the break, Iowa is locked with South Dakota State in a 3-all tie. Needless to say, that’s not going to cut it offensively for a program coming off a B1G West title.
The Hawkeyes have a defense that is capable of being one of the best in the B1G and one of the better units in the country. The offense needs to show it can help produce.
