Iowa added to its 2025 recruiting class on Sunday as Illinois wide receiver Terrence Smith committed to the program, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
Smith, a 6-foot-4, 185-pounder, committed to the Hawkeyes over fellow B1G programs Iowa State, Minnesota, and Purdue. According to 247Sports’ composite ranking, he is a 4-star recruit and the No. 8 player in the state.

He is also the 14th player from the class of 2025 to commit to Kirk Ferentz and the Hawkeyes, and the first wide receiver of the cycle to do so.
As for this year’s Iowa team, things got off to a good start as it whipped Illinois State 40-0 on Saturday in the first game for new offensive coordinator Tim Lester. Ferentz wasn’t on the sideline as he served a 1-game suspension after the Hawkeyes self-reported a minor recruiting violation.
Iowa hosts rival Iowa State in the annual CyHawk game in Week 2. The Hawkeyes won last season’s edition, 20-13, in Ames.
