Iowa’s men’s basketball program has halted summer workouts following the latest round of COVID-19 testing. The athletic department released a statement on Tuesday.
According to a release from the University of Iowa, men’s basketball workouts will be paused for 14 days after two student-athletes tested positive for the virus. The latest round of testing was conducted on Monday, July 27.
“Following the positive test result, protocol established by UI Athletics and medical staff, including contact tracing procedures, is being followed to ensure the safety of all UI Athletics student-athletes and staff,” the school said in a statement. “This mandatory protocol also includes isolation for individuals who test positive, and quarantine for those individuals who might have been exposed to someone with the virus.”
Numerous cases of positive COVID-19 tests have been reported throughout the B1G and across the country as student-athletes, coaches and staff members return to campus for voluntary workouts.
The NCAA lifted its moratorium on organized team activities on June 1.
