Iowa lands commitment from 3-star athlete out of Ohio

Iowa has received a verbal commitment from Toledo (Ohio) Central Catholic athlete Jaylen Watson.

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Watson recently camped at Iowa and left with a scholarship offer as a defensive back. He took an official visit to campus the weekend of June 23. And, on Saturday, he revealed his commitment to the Hawkeyes, picking them over offers from Cincinnati, Louisville, Maryland, Minnesota, and West Virginia, among others.

Watson is a 3-star recruit in the industry-generated 247 Composite. He’s ranked as the No. 129 athlete in the 2024 class and the No. 49 recruit from Ohio.

For the first 3 years of his high school career (at River Rouge in Michigan), Watson primarily lined up as a wideout. Most of his previous offers were to play wideout at the college level, but the Hawkeyes like him as a corner.

He becomes the Hawkeyes’ 19th known commitment for the 2024 cycle. You can see his highlight tape below, via Hudl:
