Iowa is bringing in another Australian punter to the program following the success of Tory Taylor.
This time, the commitment comes from Rhys Dakin, a punter out of Mazenod College in Melbourne/Victoria, Australia. Dakin trained with Prokick Australia, a program designed to train Australians for punting and kicking in American football.
“Excited to announce my commitment to study and play football on a full scholarship at the University of Iowa,” Dakin wrote on social media.
“I would like to thank Prokick Australia, (@JohnnyPKA), and Tim Gleeson for coaching me. Thank you also to Coach LeVar Woods for coming to visit me and my family.”

Dakin comes from the same organization that trained Taylor prior to Taylor’s remarkable career with the Hawkeyes. Taylor served as the program’s punter for 4 seasons, setting numerous records and capturing the Ray Guy Award as the nation’s best punter in the 2023 season.
As Taylor moves on to the NFL next season, Dakin will try to maintain the same level of special teams success Iowa has grown accustomed to with Taylor in the program.
