Iowa has named its honorary captain for Saturday’s matchup against Rutgers.

Each week, Iowa names a former student-athlete as its honorary captain. This week, it’s former cornerback Desmond King.

King, who played for the Hawkeyes from 2013 to 2016, recorded 174 tackles and 14 interceptions during his time with Iowa. He went on to be drafted in the 5th round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Chargers.

He’s had a successful NFL career, playing with the Chargers, the Tennessee Titans and the Houston Texans, racking up 424 tackles and 9 interceptions across his career. He was picked up by the Pittsburgh Steelers over the offseason but was released after the Steelers could not find a trade destination for him. He is currently a free agent.

Iowa is looking for a big win over Rutgers this week after a narrow 10-7 win over Northwestern last week. The Hawkeyes are in the driver’s seat for the B1G West title and they are looking to stay there.
