Iowa quarterback Brendan Sullivan is once again heading to the transfer portal, On3 reported on Friday night.

Sullivan has 1 year of eligibility left and is reportedly leaving Iowa after arriving last spring following 3 years at Big Ten rival Northwestern.

Sullivan appeared in 10 games during his 1 and only season with the Hawkeyes, making 3 starts. The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder from Davison, MI, completed 71.7% of his passes in 2024, with 3 touchdown passes and 3 interceptions. Sullivan did show an ability to do damage with his legs last fall, rushing for 4 TDs.

His departure leaves Iowa with 5 signal-callers in its quarterback room for 2025, headlined by former South Dakota State star Mark Gronowski, who will be out until June at the earliest after having surgery for a common football-related injury.

Former Auburn quarterback Hank Brown is also in the mix at Iowa, along with Jackson Stratton, Jimmy Sullivan and Ryan Fitzgerald. But Brendan Sullivan was the most experienced returner for the Hawkeyes, so his apparent departure hurts a bit.

“Someone is gonna get a great dude and a hell of a competitor in Sully!” said Tyler Barnes, Iowa football’s general manager and chief of staff, in a tweet after the news broke regarding Sullivan’s departure.
