Iowa QB Spencer Petras knows a thing or two about facing criticism. He also knows some of that comes with the territory of being a collegiate QB, but he delivered an honest reaction when asked about fan criticism after the Citrus Bowl.
In that game, the Hawkeyes erased a 10-point deficit to take a lead in the fourth quarter over Kentucky. Unfortunately, the Wildcats would score late with Petras throwing an interception on Iowa’s final drive of the game. It was Petras’ 3rd pick of the bowl.
After the loss, Chad Leistikow with the Des Moines Register and Iowa City Press-Citizen asked Petras if he had any message to fans that feel the need to be critical. Petras admitted he’s adjusted to seeing the criticism but the same is not necessarily true for family members.
“I would just say that remember my mom reads a lot of the things that people say,” Petras said. “I’ve grown in my immune system and dealing with the things people say about me, but it’s never easy for loved ones or parents, ex-teammates to read some of the things people say. Remember I’m a human being, as are my parents.”
After Spencer Petras answered his final question today, he said, “See you next year.”
