One Iowa RB and the team’s leading rusher so far this season will be on the sidelines for Week 3.

Starting RB Kaleb Johnson appeared on the Hawkeyes’ availability report Saturday afternoon. He has started the first two games of the season but will be out and unavailable for Week 3. Some have reported Johnson’s ailment as an ankle injury.

Johnson leads Iowa in carries and rushing yards to begin the season with 34 carries for 91 yards and also has a touchdown. However, his efficiency has lagged a bit with just 2.7 yards per carry through the first two games.

In Johnson’s absence, the Hawkeyes will likely turn to a combination of Leshon Williams and Jaziun Patterson against Western Michigan. Williams has the edge in experience after rushing for 412 yards and 2 touchdowns a season ago, but Patterson is likely the player to watch in Week 3.

Patterson had a breakout performance against Iowa State with 86 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. He is also second on the Hawkeyes in rushing to begin the season.
