Iowa’s running back room has reportedly taken a hit.

Wednesday, 247Sports reported that running back Henry Geil has entered his name in the transfer portal. The announcement comes just a few days before the Hawkeyes open the 2019 season against Miami (OH) at Kinnick Stadium.

Geil was a three-star member of Iowa’s 2018 recruiting class. He was ranked as the No. 31 running back in the class and was one of the top 600 players in his cycle. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound back from Wisconsin was expected to have a bright future in Iowa City.

Last season, Geil utilized his redshirt year after appearing in just two games during Iowa’s 9-4 campaign. He totaled 37 yards on 15 carries in those two games for the Hawkeyes.

Mekhi Sargent and Toren Young are expected to carry a majority of the load for the Iowa rushing attack this fall.
