Zach VanValkenburg is returning for a third season at Iowa, the defensive lineman taking advantage of another season eligibility during this COVID-19 season.

A transfer from Division II Hillsdale College, VanValkenburg had 30 total tackles with 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble. It was a massive step forward in 2020 from season before when he had six total tackles.

VanValkenburg made the announcement via his social media account on Wednesday.

Already, four Iowa players have declared for the NFL with running back Mekhi Sargent the latest to do so on Wednesday.

Iowa finished the season 6-2, an impressive record given losses in their first two games. The Music City Bowl against Missouri, what was supposed to be Iowa’s final game of the year, was cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns within the Tigers program.
