Iowa starting DT suspended for entirety of 2023 season, per Kirk Ferentz

Iowa starting defensive tackle Noah Shannon has been suspended for all of the 2023 season because of the NCAA’s investigation into sports gambling. Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz confirmed the news on Wednesday.
The Hawkeyes are appealing the decision. Ferentz noted that Shannon wagered on a Hawkeye contest in a different sport.

Iowa has stated that any player who is serving a suspension is ineligible to play while the appeals process is unfolding.

The 6-foot, 295-pound senior amassed 24 solo tackles and 2 sacks last season. For his career at Iowa, Shannon has tallied 107 tackles and 4.5 sacks.
No. 25 Iowa begins the regular season with a home contest vs. Utah State on Sept. 2. This is the 3rd all-time meeting between the programs, with Iowa 2-0 in the series. The last meeting was a 48-7 Iowa victory in 2002.
