Iowa to welcome former assistant coach as honorary captain versus Nevada

Iowa will welcome back former assistant coach Carl Jackson as an honorary captain for the game against Nevada in Week 3.
It is common for most teams to have an honorary captain for games and Iowa will take part in this tradition by honoring someone with a long history at Iowa. Jackson retired from coaching in February 2008 and his last season at Iowa was 2007.

Before he retired, Jackson spent 22 seasons at Iowa as an assistant coach. He was a running backs coach for Iowa and helped Iowa’s offense for decades. Jackson coached several notable running backs over the course of 22 years.
Jackson had 2 separate tenures at Iowa. His first stint at Iowa was from 1979 to 1991. After four years as the running backs coach for the San Francisco 49ers, he eventually made his way back to coaching college running backs. He coached the running backs at Texas for 1 season in 1997.
He returned to Iowa in 1999. Jackson finished his coaching career at Iowa in 2007. In his 2 stints at Iowa, Jackson worked with 2 legendary coaches in Hayden Fry and Kirk Ferentz. Iowa’s home crowd will appreciate Jackson’s presence when he walks with Iowa’s team.
Iowa and Nevada play each other on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
