Keegan Murray’s 24-point performance fueled Iowa to an upset road victory over No. 18 Ohio State on Saturday in Columbus.
Murray scored 20 points in the first half of the game, helping lead the Hawkeyes to a 39-38 halftime advantage. While he only scored 4 points in the second half, Iowa got big contributions from Jordan Bohannon, as well has Kris Murray and Ahron Ulis off the bench.
Bohannon added 10 points, while Kris Murray scored 11 and Ulis got 7 off the bench. The Hawkeyes shot 6-of-21 from behind the 3-point line and connected on 15-of-21 from the free throw stripe.
Iowa’s defense did a solid job containing EJ Liddell, who scored 15 points and grabbed 8 rebounds but shot 6-of-13 from the field. The Buckeyes struggled from behind the arc, making just 2-of-11 from deep.
Saturday’s victory was a big one for Iowa, which improved to 18-8 on the year, adding a signature win to the tournament resume late in the year. The Hawkeyes still have games against Nebraska, Northwestern, Michigan and No. 12 Illinois remaining.
Ohio State’s loss doesn’t eliminate it from the B1G race for the regular season title. However, the Buckeyes are now 9-5 in league play and are 2 games out of first with 6 to play.
