Iowa wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette has become one of the B1G’s most electrifying players over the last two seasons. Now, he’ll try to carry that success over to the NFL.
On Thursday morning, Smith-Marsette announced on Twitter that he has decided to begin preparing for the 2021 NFL Draft. It was not a surprising move for the Hawkeye, but he confirmed that would be his next move.

Smith-Marsette rounded out his career at Iowa by totaling 345 receiving yards and 4 touchdown catches on 25 receptions during the 2020 season. He also accounted for 176 yards on 8 kickoff returns and 54 yards and one score on 7 carries.
Iowa finished the year with a 6-2 record, playing every game until Champions Week, when the Week 9 showdown with Michigan was canceled. The Hawkeyes will play Missouri in the Music City Bowl.
The season ended in strong fashion for Smith-Marsette, who had a tremendous final game with the Hawkeyes. He had 7 catches for 140 yards and 2 touchdowns in Iowa’s 28-7 win over Wisconsin, ending a 4-game losing steak to the Badgers.
Over his career in Iowa City, Smith-Marsette has totaled 110 catches for 1,615 yards and 14 touchdowns, while adding 274 yards and 4 scores on the ground. He’s also been an effective return man for the Hawkeyes, racking up 1,520 yards on kickoff returns and scoring two touchdowns.
