Iowa wrestling wrapped up the B1G schedule on Friday night, posting an impressive performance during the dual win over Michigan. When it was all said and done, the No. 2 Hawkeyes walked away with a 33-8 win over the No. 9 Wolverines.

The blowout started right out of the gate with Spencer Lee posting another impressive outing at 125 pounds. Lee recorded an 11-2 major decision over Jack Medley after recording a 6-1 first period.

Behind Lee, Brody Teske and Real Woods, the Hawkeyes recorded 3 consecutive bonus point victories to open the dual. By the time Nelson Brands took a 5-1 victory over Joseph Walker at 174 pounds, Iowa had rattled off 7 straight wins and built a 28-0 lead in the dual.

The Hawkeyes went on to win 8 of the 10 matches on the evening with 5 of those wins coming with bonus points. The 25-point win also goes down as Iowa’s largest against the Wolverines since a 36-0 blowout in 2010.

“They are without some guys, that has to be said,” said Iowa head coach Tom Brands. “We have Oklahoma State coming to town a week from Sunday and we have to get ready for the postseason, it’s right there.

“Teske, good job, we’re going to see a different guy there in a Michigan singlet if we meet them, a couple of different places, 165 as well. We have to keep controlling what we control and do what we do best at the most important time of the year.”

Iowa improves to 14-1 overall on the season and finishes 7-1 in B1G duals. The lone loss for Iowa this season came against No. 1 Penn State.

Now, the Hawkeyes will regroup before facing Oklahoma State next Sunday (Feb. 19) in the regular-season finale.
