Iowa’s performance in the second quarter of Friday night’s B1G showdown against Maryland was incredible. In fact, it was one one of the best 15-minute periods the Hawkeyes have put together in nearly 20 years.

According to IowaFBLive, the 31 points scored in Friday night’s second quarter was the most in a single quarter for the team since a game against Akron in 2002. That season, the Hawkeyes put up 37 points in the first quarter.

The last time that kind of production happened in one quarter against a B1G opponent? 1985, when Iowa scored 35 points against Illinois in the opening quarter.

So, yeah, it’s been awhile.

Iowa trailed Maryland 7-3 at the end of the first quarter, but 5 Terrapin turnovers really gave the Hawkeyes a boost in the second quarter. They took a 34-7 lead into half and are closing in on a 5-0 start.
