After missing last week’s game against Northwestern, it sounds like Iowa star linebacker Josey Jewell will be back on the field this Saturday.

On Tuesday, Hawkeyes head coach Kirk Ferentz said that Jewell is expected to play in Saturday’s rivalry game against Minnesota. Earlier this week, Ferentz said the linebacker was week-to-week, but could potentially be back sooner rather than later.

Jewell’s return is huge for Iowa’s defense, especially as it tries to avoid falling to 1-4 in the B1G this season. Jewell leads the conference with 70 tackles and has come up with 9.5 stops for loss. He’s played some of his best football in Iowa’s biggest games throughout his career.

There was also an update on safety Brandon Snyder, but it doesn’t sound as though he’ll be suited up this weekend. The safety was injured in the spring, suffering a torn ACL. Snyder made his return a few weeks ago against Illinois but his status seems to be a little more in-doubt moving forward.

While Snyder’s absence is significant, getting Jewell back to fill that spot at linebacker would be huge for Iowa moving forward.

Saturday’s game between Iowa and Minnesota is scheduled to kickoff at 6:30 p.m. ET in Kinnick Stadium. It will air on FS1.
