Brian Ferentz and the Iowa offense isn’t afraid to mix things up this week. In a rivalry game against Nebraska to close out the season, the Hawkeyes are getting a little creative early.

In the first quarter of Friday’s contest, Ferentz dialed up a reverse that put quarterback Nate Stanley as the lead blocker for wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette. But the senior quarterback didn’t need to lay a single shoulder into anyone, as Smith-Marsette coasted into the end zone for the first score of the game.

The Hawkeyes took an early 7-0 advantage on the 45-yard run.

Iowa’s offense has struggled throughout the season, so Ferentz breaking out a little creativity early in the game could make things easier for the Hawkeyes later in the game.

The touchdown was Smith-Marsette’s second on the ground this season, and six total score in 2019.
