Isiah Pacheco has been impressing as a rookie with the Kansas City Chiefs. Now, Pacheco is expected to get his first career start in the Week 7 game against the San Francisco 49ers.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Pacheco will get the start over a healthy Clyde Edwards-Helaire, a former first-round pick of the Chiefs. Pacheco was a seventh-round selection in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Rutgers.
The move is a significant one and a great opportunity for Pacheco, but the expectation is that the Chiefs will continue to split the load between the Scarlet Knight rookie and Edwards-Helaire. So far, Pacheco has been slightly more efficient and is a tough interior runner early on.
The other aspect of Pacheco’s game that the Chiefs favor is his pass protection, per Rapoport. Pacheco’s pass protection has stood out and is something Kansas City will utilize a lot in the pass-happy offense the Chiefs utilize.
We’ll see if Pacheco can shine in the role and establish himself as a true RB1 moving forward.
