Rutgers is 5-5 and one win away from reaching a bowl game for the first time since 2014. The Scarlett Knights have to get through either Penn State or Maryland in order to reach it.
For those who have kept up with Greg Schiano, you may remember that he was on the staff while Joe Paterno was coaching at Penn State. It would definitely be an important win for Schiano as a head coach, and he knows it.
Per Nick Kosko of 247 Sports, Schiano talked about what it would be like to go out and get a win at Penn State as a head coach.
“Yeah, I mean, I’m not going to get caught up in it because we have a job to do but, heck, it’s where I cut my teeth in coaching,” Schiano said. “You know, I learned from some of the greatest coaches to ever coach football there. And former Penn State head coach Joe Paterno was a huge part of my development, as well as the staff there. So, yeah, it means something. But that’s not the job right now.
“The job is for me to stay focused on what we have to do and that’s what I will do. But it will be neat to go back there. I went back there as an assistant twice when I was at Ohio State, but to go back with my team my own team now certainly it’ll mean something.”
Penn State (6-4) and Rutgers (5-5) gear up for Schiano’s return Saturday at 12 p.m. ET on the Big Ten Network.
