The Nebraska Cornhuskers had a chance to knock off the Purdue Boilermakers at home on Saturday. They went into halftime with a 17-14 lead over Purdue at halftime, but they were outscored 14-6 in the second half.
Several factors contributed to the loss, but the biggest was the inefficient performance of quarterback Adrian Martinez. Against Purdue, Martinez threw for 14-of-29 completions for 269 yards, 2 touchdowns, 4 interceptions, and a QBR of 13.3.
This was the worst performance of the season for Martinez as Nebraska suffered its sixth loss of the season.
Head coach Scott Frost was upset by the loss and said that the roster for his team has good, but not great talent.
Frost also added that Martinez will still be the starting quarterback for Nebraska moving forward. Backup quarterback Logan Smothers only has 11 passing attempts for Nebraska this season while Matt Masker only has 3 passing attempts.
Scott Frost, composed but clearly displeased, said he did not address the team at length after the game. He let the captains do it.
Said the team has good talent, not great talent. Added that the QB situation is “not a story” and Nebraska’s sticking with Martinez.

Because of the offensive struggles recently, there’s been some call for the Huskers to mix things up under center. It doesn’t sound like that will be happening.
Waiting for the Huskers are Ohio State, Wisconsin and Iowa in the final 3 games of the season. Nebraska is 0-8 in the Frost era against those 3 opponents.
