The Josh Gattis experiment is not off to a great start in Ann Arbor. In fact, it’s pretty sloppy.
After the first quarter in Saturday’s game against Army, MLive.com reported that the Wolverines have already surpassed their fumble lost total for the entire 2018 season. Five quarters, four lost fumbles. Last year, Michigan had just three lost fumbles.
It was the best total in college football. Michigan also only had 10 total fumbles on the year in 2018, recovering seven.
Once again, Shea Patterson fumbled early in Saturday’s game against Army. He also fumbled late in the first quarter. Last week, Patterson fumbled on the first play of the game, leading to a Middle Tennessee touchdown.
Army took a 14-7 lead into halftime in Ann Arbor.
For as much excitement that surrounded bringing Gattis to Ann Arbor, this has been an ugly start for the first-time play-caller. Things are going to have to get a lot better in a hurry for Michigan to have a shot at winning the East.
