Report: IU agrees to extension with Adidas

Zach Osterman of the Indianapolis Star reported on Monday night that Indiana University athletics and Adidas agreed on an extension through 2024.
IU, which had been receiving $3.7 million annually from Adidas, will now receive $6.7 million, according to the report.
The deal will total $53.8 million over the eight-year period. Indiana has been on its current deal with Adidas since 2004, which followed the school’s previous agreement with Nike.
The news comes after Michigan and Notre Dame, Adidas’ two most high profile university contracts, left for other apparel companies. Michigan signed on with Nike and Air Jordan while Notre Dame will be under contract with Under Armour.
According to the Portland Business Journal, IU’s deal will make it Adidas’ third richest university contract.
Indiana experimented with a variety of alternate helmets last year, which will remain part of the future marketing strategy.
