Jack Campbell, Iowa’s stud linebacker, is one of the five finalists for the prestigious Butkus Award which is given to the best linebacker in all of college football. An independent committee comprised of 51 experts, including professional and college coaches, conducts the process over the season to award who they believe is the best at the position.

Campbell has already recorded over 100 tackles this season with 46 solo tackles. He’s been a major part of an Iowa defense that has only allowed 13.54 points per game.

During Iowa’s big road victory over Minnesota last Saturday, Campbell had two of the biggest plays of the game including a forced fumble. Following the fumble, he would have a critical interception late in the game which set up Iowa’s offense for the game-winning field goal.

This Monday Campbell was also named B1G Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Golden Gophers.

Campbell is in great company with other finalists like Georgia’s Jamon Dumas-Johnson, Arkansas’ Drew Sanders, Cincinnati’s Ivan Pace Jr. and Washington State’s Daiyan Henly. Campbell has solidified himself as one of the best Hawkeye linebackers in school history with his performance this season and there are only two others who have been named a Butkus Finalist in Iowa’s history as a program.
