Jaelyne Matthews, a 6-foot-5 and 290-pound offensive tackle out of Toms River, New Jersey (Toms River North), has decided to play in the Big Ten.
Matthews is a 4-star recruit in the Class of 2025 and ranked the No. 5 offensive tackle in the class, and the No. 1 recruit in the state of New Jersey, according to the 247Sports Composite. His other finalists were Georgia, Miami, Ohio State and Rutgers.
Matthews announced on social media that he’s “107%” committed. He reportedly had an unofficial visit to Penn State on Saturday. He previously told 247Sports what would be a deciding factor about his decision.
“It was more a relationship built with the coaches, and more of my preference of where I want to go academic-wise, and the style of football,” he said. “I know you don’t just go off of buildng a relationship with a coach, but it was them coming to my school, checking up on me, and things like that. It was more about a family tie, which I said at the beginning of my recruitment was a really big deal for me.”
