Jalen Rose did not mince words when sharing some advice for Alabama QB Jalen Hurts.

One of the big storylines nationally heading into Week 1 of the season was the QB battle for the Crimson Tide. Hurts, a junior, was trying to hold onto his starting job after leading Alabama to back-to-back Playoff appearances.

In the end, sophomore QB Tua Tagovailoa was tabbed as the starter. Tagovailoa did play as a freshman and even replaced Hurts in the National Championship Game. Tagovailoa turned out to be instrumental in helping the Tide come back and knock off Georgia for the title.

Not only did Tagovailoa win the starting job for Week 1, he likely cemented his role as the starter with an impressive showing against Louisville. Hurts did see action in the game, but he will likely serve as the backup throughout the season.

With that in mind, Rose advised Hurts not to risk losing a year of eligibility. Instead, Rose encouraged Hurts to redshirt this season and then transfer after graduating in December. 247 Sports tweeted out Rose’s comments that were made on ESPN’s Get Up! Monday:

It remains to be seen how Hurts’ time at Alabama will play out, but it is hard to imagine him reclaiming the starting job from the talented Tagovailoa.
