James Franklin isn’t bothered by fan’s poor outlook on Sean Clifford’s career in Happy Valley.
It’s been an up-and-down season for Clifford, and Franklin has found himself having to defend the QB on multiple occasions. In the Week 9 loss to Ohio State, Clifford threw 2 interceptions, the latest being his 7th of the season. That ties the QB for 67th in CFB. Loyal Penn State fans have decried the QB taking the field, preferring 5-star QB recruit Drew Allar receive the starting nod.
Franklin found himself in a familiar spot defending Clifford on Tuesday, saying that he hopes the senior QB receives the recognition he deserves on Senior Day.
James Franklin on Sean Clifford: "I hope he gets the type of appreciation and recognition that he deserves (on Senior Day next week). We'll see."

Franklin also addressed critics of the QB, saying that the loudest, criticizing voices are probably in the minority. While Clifford has had some down moments, the QB holds the Penn State records for passing TDs, completions & attempts, and completion percentage. After the 30-0 thumping of Maryland on Saturday, Clifford also became No. 1 in school history in passing yards.
Franklin on fan's poor evaluation of Clifford's career: "If I had to guess, it's the vocal minority…Typical, the positive ones aren't as vocal as the people criticizing."
