Penn State head coach James Franklin has yet to name a starting quarterback for the Nittany Lions’ Week 1 matchup against West Virginia.
Franklin will likely decide between redshirt freshman Beau Pribula and sophomore Drew Allar, but for now he isn’t making his decision public — if he has even made one.
He has liked the battle for the starting spot that he’s seen in practice so far and had high praise for Pribula.
“I do think it’s been good competition,” Franklin said in his press conference Tuesday. “And like I’ve told you guys all camp, not only has Beau done some nice things and Beau brings an element that maybe Drew doesn’t have. Maybe you can factor those things in.”
Franklin also mentioned that he hasn’t ruled out freshman Jaxon Smolik just yet either and trusts that he can go to Smolik if the time comes.
The Nittany Lions will take on West Virginia at 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday night.
