It sounds like some of Penn State’s top linebackers will be calling the 2021 season their last.
Speaking about the 2022 recruiting class, Franklin talked about the linebacker position being one of need during this cycle. That’s when he made an interesting comment without revealing too much.
Franklin said Penn State is expecting to “lose some bog-time linebackers.” He did not make any mention of names, likely giving the players the floor to reveal their decision on their own time.

That would likely hint at Ellis Brooks and Brandon Smith potentially heading for the NFL Draft (or potentially transfer portal), though that would be simply speculation. It does add an interesting element to Penn State’s recruiting class, though.
The Nittany Lions added 2 linebackers in the 2022 recruiting class — 4-star Abdul Carter and 3-star Keon Wylie. Both prospects are in-state recruits.
Penn State finished the season with a 7-5 record and will take on Arkansas in the Outback Bowl. It’s unclear if those “big-time linebackers” intend to participate in the Nittany Lions’ postseason game.
